ANALYSIS BY SUPERVISOR
Analysis of Internship by University Supervisor (Tim Stebbins)
Professional Development
In what areas will your intern need attention and further development as he/she begins their teaching career?
- Kyle will develop his own, unique approach to his classroom management style as he transitions into a class by himself. He had some good mentoring from his cooperating teacher but has a different style then she does.
- One of Kyle’s growth areas moving forward will be creating and grading assessments. Timeliness is important in getting student’s work handed back to them so that the teacher knows when and how to move forward with instruction.
- Kyle has a lot to offer the teaching profession and I hope he continues to gain self-confidence, work on time management, and contribute to future professional development opportunities that are sure to come his way.
Strengths
What strengths is your intern bringing to the profession that are more apparent to you now as he/she completes his/her student interning?
- Kyle was exceptionally good at lesson planning and aligning his instruction to the Standards. His lesson plans were well thought out and he built upon prior knowledge of the students to form cohesive Unit plans for his classes.
- Kyle implemented many technology strategies, incorporating many different applications, games, and other means of collaborating and communicating with learners. He will surely bring innovative ideas for technology use into his classroom and school next year. One of the things Kyle did with his classes is to offer calming music in the background when students were doing independent work and it had a positive effect on the classroom environment.
- Kyle benefitted by having an experienced cooperating teacher, Vickie Salo, who has had many interns before. They worked really well together and Kyle was able to “get ahead” of the curve by almost teaching solo from day one. Kyle always made real world connections with the content he teaches.
- Content Knowledge is also a strength of Kyle’s and it is apparent that he has a love for science and that is conveyed to students by his words and actions as their teacher. I really enjoyed sitting and observing his classes as he made Science come to life for his students.
