ANALYSIS BY COOPERATING TEACHER
Professional development
In what areas will your student teacher intern need
attention and further development as they begin their teaching career?
o Like any new teacher, Kyle will need to continue to work on timing for
some of the assignments. Since this is the first time he has done these
activities, it is hard to gauge how much time students will need for
assessments, labs, and other activities. He has done a great job of
improvising during a lesson to allow for time to finish another day.
o I have mentioned to Kyle to think about walking around the room more
often, especially during assessments to check for understanding and to
also look for any type of cheating. In high school, many students like to
hide papers or phones behind a laptop or on their lap so walking around
discourages this type of behavior.
o With many students now attending our district from other countries, we are
all learning new ways to adapt and be able to help them, whether it is
translating documents or creating alternative assignments. Kyle has done
this a lot already but I think we could all use more classes or workshops
on this topic.
Strengths:
What strengths is your student teacher intern bringing to the
profession that are more apparent to you now as they complete their student
teacher internship?
o Kyle has been able to build strong relationships with several students and
has a personality that they are drawn to. He isn’t afraid to be silly or talk
about personal choices in music, movies, etc that students in high school
relate to. It is apparent when he teaches that he is enjoying this
experience and that excitement comes across to the students.
o Kyle has a strong background in the content that he is teaching and that is
definitely a strength in high school science classes. Students ask a lot of
questions and he is able to answer them or point them in the right
direction for an answer. He has no trouble with setting up labs or activities
either.
o Kyle has been able to plan out three full units for Marine Biology. He took
over the class on the first day and had no problem creating lesson plans
for the units and changing rubrics that he felt would work for these
students. He has created slideshows, review games, assessments, and
an opening slideshow question for each day of school. He has done all
the grading for these classes and I am more than confident that he is
ready to take over a classroom as a teacher.
o Kyle has barely missed any school days and is always on time. He comes
in early and stays if needed. He has attended all the professional
development days as well.
